Bordered by Nicaragua to the north and Panama to the south, the Pacific Ocean to the west and the Caribbean Sea to the east, Costa Rica is located in one of the most beautiful places in the world. Spanish for “rich coast,” the tropical paradise displays a bewilderingly diverse array of landscapes, flora, and fauna ranging from rain forests to dry tropical forests, volcanoes to beaches, and high mountains to lowlands. For people traveling in Costa Rica, being able to see all of the sights and local destinations is a must. Flying into the capital, San Jose, usually marks the start of a Costa Rican vacation. The major destinations in the country include Cahuita National Park, Chirripo National Park, Cocos Island National Park, Corcovado National Park, Arenal Volcano, Manuel Antonio National Park, Monteverde and Santa Elena Cloud Forest Reserves, Pacuare River and Protected Zone, and Rincón de la Vieja Volcano National Park.

Most people choose to stay in hotels, although Costa Rica vacation rentals are a very attractive alternative for their positioning in the community, cheap price tag, and wonderful amenities. Diving in Costa Rica, by American standards, is dangerous and the country has one of the highest deaths by car accidents in the world. The public bus, however, serves most major tourist destinations and is much better than the risk of renting a car. Nature Air and Sansa are the two airlines that provide domestic services in Costa Rica.
